Haley Devol; the owner of The Local Edit on Amelia Island

Hi, im hales.

I’m not someone who’s ever been able to stay in one lane for very long—and I’ve come to realize that’s the point.

I’ve always been drawn to new ideas, projects, and experiences. i’m known in my personal life as “the I-t girl” and a canva master. which i mastered early on and paved the way for my creative journey. in my professional career, i’ve mastered the power of “the pivot” i.e. dramatically changing the course of my life in efforts to find my passions + purpose. I went from bartender, to paralegal (no prior experience or related legal knowledge), to realtor, to content creator, and now, to self-taught graphic designer.

I started writing in college as a casual hobby, then suddenly i was hired as a professional legal writer, crypocurrency blog writer, and had articles featured on JDsupra and appearing on the first page of content-related google searches. Now, i write poetry and songs for fun - but hope to publish in some way some day.

i really wanted to re-design my room one year, so i downloaded a 3d architectural and interior design app and within a year i was building an entire event venue. i used to sketch for relaxation and was okay at best, but decided to pursure it half-hazardly, so i downloaded adobe illustrator, and bought an amazon-knock off drawing pad.

Long story short- i dont do well with idle-hands, and i love to challenge myself & my creative abilities. This is how the local edit came to life. in 2024 i caved and bought an ipad which changed my life (not a joke). i started drawing what i saw or knew that inspired me. most of this was locally inspired by Amelia island + jacksonville. t-shirts, phone cases, graphics - nothing was off limits, i wanted (and did) to learn it all.

nostalgia and whimsey and visual aesthetics are built into the fabric of my being, and those principles guide the way i look at creativity. this is how the sticker machine idea came to life; once i saw the first tiktok - i knew i had to get my hands on one. after 3-4 months of talking about it, thinking about maybe pursuing it, and telling my friends how cool it would be, i finally got an alert that one had been listed on FB market place - i bought it immediately. and now were here! im so excited to grow this project and see what else i get hyperfixated on in the process. my creative philosophy is quite simply: the limit does not exist.

welcome to my creative outlet, my design skill-hub. welcome to the local edit. thank you for being here.
